Today Is My Birthday, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na...
by Joe?Pulcinella
Today is a famous anniversary in history not only because I was born on this date in 1964 but because of other notable events.
1493: The birth of Bartolommeo Bandinelli, Italian sculptor (d. 1560)
1933: In the German general election, 92% of electors are recorded as voting for Nazi candidates, with 96% of the electorate turning out to vote. (At last I counted, we have approximately a dozen or so potential tyrants running for president)
1938: Hermann G?ring announces Nazi Germany plans to make Madagascar the "Jewish homeland", an idea that actually was first considered by 19th century journalist Theodor Herzl. (Wait a minute, don't we praise Lincoln for proposing the very same thing with negoros?)
1969: Seymour Hersh breaks My Lai story.
1971: President Richard Nixon (R) proclaims the end of the U.S. offensive role in the Vietnam War and withdraws 45,000 more troops.
