A Shameful Day For The Remnants Of The Old Republic

by Vince?Daliessio

The US Senate, with an ostentatious flourish by the disgraceful senator (and ex-POW) John McCain,?has passed a resolution allowing torture at the discretion of the president and his evil minions. Essentially they have gutted decades of American and international law in order to grant the president unlimited power to surveil, arrest, detain, torture and intimidate anyone at all, for any reason or no reason,?without incurring war crimes charges. Chris Floyd summarizes;

What we have seen today is no "grand compromise," no "great debate," no "act of principle" and certainly no "preservation" of the Geneva Conventions. What we have seen instead is a small group of rich, cynical, power-hungry old bastards belch forth lies in the service of torture and tyranny. And if you're not angry about that, if you're not "shrill" about that, then by God you are one piss-poor American citizen. You shame every man and woman who have fought and died and marched and worked and dreamed for our freedoms.

Vinnie, i posted on one of the gbv lists that it is just mind boggling that we (the country/gov) are even having a "debate" on the right to use torture. This is just sad and I feel ashamed to be an American.

I'm with you buddy - it is a mockery of everything that was ever good about this country, and the fact that that two-faced cretin McCain is OK with that just BLOWS MY MIND.

I agree. By the way, who was the Air Force guy who went on record as saying that to demonstrate to the world that our new, non-lethal microwave weapons are so safe that we should consider using them on "unruly" Americans first? Does he mean critics of the president?
