Small Goverment Works
by Vince?Daliessio
The Delaware County (PA) Libertarian Committe Chairman?referred me to this link about the total transformation of government in New Zealand. Believe it or not, they were in worse shape than we were in 1984, and now they are the model of minimal government. ?Yes it links to Hillsdale College, and yes, Hillsdale has had a dalliance recently with neoconservatism, but this is a fascinating article promoting just how much good liberty can do;

If the same thing was tried here in the US, we'd all live like kings...

When it comes to government, the difference between a "criminal", problem and one that is merely "managerial" is simply one of scope. NZ's government encompassed a larger share of GDP than ours does currently. Then again, their GDP doesn't make huge "defense" procurements profitable...
Good article but I had some problems. Seems to me that New Zealand identified its problems as managerial. I see ours as criminal. Maybe this has to do with the relative sizes of each nation. Our politicians steer trillions around and there is a lot of incentive for all the wrong people to get involved for all the wrong reasons. But even though, I applaud NZ kicking sheep farmers and others off the dole. However, I think they've made a massive mistake by putting private schools ON the dole: "We made it possible for privately owned schools to be funded in exactly the same way as publicly owned schools..." All in all, I give them an A since most countries on the verge of implosion tend toward complete, despotic socialism and become wards of the IMF instead of putting their trust in the free market. And I love the part where they called in the Dept of Transportation and asked them just why citizens need drivers licenses (especially when they were coming in at a loss). They came up with no good answer and they abolished the whole licensing scheme!
