The Taxman Finally Cometh...

...to eBay. The IRS has taken notice of the $34 BILLION dollars worth of merchandise sold on the site last year, and, like the bumbling-yet-deadly bureaucracy it is, it has decided that there just might be some taxable income there. DUHH-UHHH.  Now moms trying to recoup the major buckage they spent on baby clothes and accessories are clearly in the sights of the IRS. Way to get out in front of things guys.

Seriously though, look for IRS snoopage if you sell anything of consequence on eBay, even if you buy more than you sell, as is typical with a hobby. Apparently, GW Bush needs more money to invade the world.

And if you needed any more reason to be suspicious of a national sales tax proposal, this is it. Life outside of the control of the central government will soon be over, except for drug dealers and gun runners.

No, point not taken. Why, instead of insisting that those few be dragged into the Draconian tax scheme that the rest of us are enslaved by, do we not insist that we ALL be absolved of tax liability. We've all been paying and paying for so long that we simply take it as being the natural order of the universe. But it has not always been that way. Our Founding Fathers never intended US citizens to pay tax on their income - especially to the federal government. They knew of the Roman Emire and its subsequent collapse and realized that it was slavery to tax the citizenry. Especailly when, at least where government is concerned, supply makes its own demand. So, no, I don't go for that reasoning. That makes about as much sense as when woman libbers in the 70's saw that men paid higher car insurance premiums than woman and cried foul until their rates were jacked up to match.

Point taken. But just be careful when you finally sell those mint-condition convertible car seats and bases - the IRS will want its cut!

I see your point. However...any money made on Ebay IS income and therefore taxable. Regardless of what your dispute with this is, if we believe in equal rights for everyone, why shouldn't the people who make the mojority of their income by selling things on that website get away with not paying taxes? I don't see the difference between their income and mine.
