Fattest City Wannabe

by Joe Pulcinella

Philly is starting to shape up after coming in at numero uno in Men's Fitness magazine's first index of America's Fattest Cities. This year's list has downgraded chubby Ed Rendell's legacy to...ready for this?...number 2! Congrats, John Street for all you've done. (yes, I'm joking).

Anyway, maybe the City of Brotherly Love should adopt an annual event such as Houston's Tour de Houston in which their mayor, Bill White, participated.

Mayor Bill White, an avid bicyclist, organized the Tour de Houston to promote fitness and biking. The event, which consists of 20-mile and 40-mile rides through several historic neighborhoods, is not associated with the Tour de Houston annual bike rides that were held in Houston in the 1980s and 1990s.

But, alas, every government scheme is ultimately infiltrated by those who would use plunder to enrich themselves.

The pleasant weather likely contributed to the higher-than-expected turnout, organizers said. Registered participants were treated afterward to free beer, tacos and music at Hermann Square in front of city hall.

Mmm, beer and tacos...<drool> Hey, but just as with the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, their hearts were on the right place...weren't they?
