Huh?

From the Associated Press:

BOSTON - FCC Chairman Michael Powell said Tuesday that he would seek broad regulatory authority for the federal government over Internet-based telephone services to avoid stifling the emerging market.

Only in Washington would that statement make sense.

How does one avoid stifling anythign by regulating it? I guess the examples of tv, radio, telephone, and cable tv are not enough to show that the government fucks up more than helps emerging technologies.

Don't I know it!

Powell's no dummy. If he doesn't throw the Federal government into the breach now, VoIP will move from states that regulate it to states that do not, or even offshore altogether. He is deliberately tying this calf in order that he may brand it.
