Congressman Questions Hurricane Relief to Miami Residents

A storm is brewing in Florida over the federal money coming into the state to help hurricane victims.

Congressman Mark Foley, of West Palm Beach, wants a review of $20 million in aid given residents of Miami-Dade County, which suffered little storm damage this summer.

Thousands of Miami-Dade county residents applied for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, even though the county never suffered a direct hit from any of the four hurricanes that hit Florida.

FEMA director Mike Brown defends the aid, saying people living in homes that aren't up to current standards may have had water and wind damage, even if the storms didn't hit hard.

Foley says he's been told he'll get the information he requested soon.

The precedent has already been set - hundreds of millions of federal 9/11 relief funds have been allocated to help the New York Times steal property to build a new headquarters 60-odd blocks from the WTC. Their current headquarters is 50-odd blocks from the WTC. Did the destruction really stretch all the way up to West 43rd Street Pinch?
