The Simple Joys Of Capitalism
by Vince Daliessio
Aside from some of the rather questionable aesthetic objects available over the internet (which I nonetheless contend is one of the biggest boosts to free enterprise ever), there are some things that no one should miss.
I was reminiscing with friends the other day about real, honest to good licorice candy, you know, the tar-ry, black, sticky stuff with the slightly bitter taste that numbed your tongue and stuck to your fillings... good times, good times.
Recently, I found the stuff again, imported from Australia. At least I think it was imported - it had a picture of a little 'roo on the package. The missus and I ate licorice until we made ourselves nauseous. No small feat, considering that
authentic licorice is supposed to SETTLE the stomach.
Anyway, thinking about how cool it was to rediscover a childhood pleasure, I ran across a website where you can buy all of the classic candies - Pop Rocks, candy necklaces, pop bottles, candy cigarettes, and even wax lips.
No doubt our parents would be horrified after all the dental work they paid for. Maybe we should just keep this among ourselves.
