House Puts Draft Rumors To Rest...For Now

by Joe?Pulcinella

The US House voted 402-2 against the Rangel bill to reinstate the draft. Although this is a good thing, it is by no means a done deal. HillaryCare was quashed and then reappeared as Medicare Reform and other piecemeal programs?in the Bush administration.

President Bush has been quoted as saying:

Speaking to Iowa voters Monday, Bush said, "We will not have a draft so long as I am president of the United States."

Personally, I feel that there may be a symantic problem with that statement due to his pushing of a National Service plan. This is not a secret nor is it a rumor. The link provided goes right to a House website. They don't call it a draft but what's in a name? Once you're inducted into national service (indentured servitude to the State, in other words), who will be in charge of determining what services the State needs?

File that promise with Wilson's promise to keep the US out of WWI during his re-election campaign, which he reneged on three months after his inauguration. I will bet Bush makes it to six months if he is re-elected, while Kerry won't wait that long.
