The Absurdity Of Catholic War Hawks
by Vince?Daliessio
Father Andrew Greeley writes about Catholics who attack his stance against the Iraq war. Some of them compare Greeley to "the priests who abuse little boys".
Now, I'm not a huge fan of Greeley's - he has written some novels that could be considered racy, and generally favors positions on social issues that border on libertine- not a strong recommendation for a moral guide, in my opinion. But he just happens to have a much bigger priest than he on his side of the issue-
The POPE.
"When war, as in these days in Iraq, threatens the fate of humanity, it is ever more urgent to proclaim, with a strong and decisive voice, that only peace is the road to follow to construct a more just and united society," John Paul said. "Violence and arms can never resolve the problems of man."
What say you, (conservative commentator and avowed devout Catholic) Sean Hannity? Is the Holy Father in error on the Iraq War?

Did you read the piece on Strauss? It is great. A real eye-opener.
Dude, that's pretty profound.Yeah, elites always and everywhere feel entitled to power. While that is of some utility in commerce, where competition tempers and channels the desire for power into areas that mostly have net benefits for mankind, these same elites, when they enter politics, lose these restraints, and sursue power without constraint. Their only limitations are the moral and institutional constraints of the society they seek to plunder, so they spend years, even careers and lifetimes finding ways to subvert or eliminate any obstacles to what they desire.
I agree. From where I'm at, it looks as though someone comes in with a pre-conceived notion (such as a want to start a war) and then they look around for some reason, no matter how lame, to execute on it. And it just so happens that most of these guys gravitate toward "intellectuals" that suggest more power in the hands of a central authority (surprise!). That's why Keynes and Marx were so popular aong the American elite regardless of whether or not their theories have stood the test of time or logic.
Ahem. It seems that they have learned from the Clintonoids that those that succeed in politics are not the smart or the talented, but trather the "true believers" in a single idealogy that can be interpreted to support all of one's aims. With the Clintonoids, it was the worship of the welfare state as embodied in Bubba hisself. With the neocons, it isn't worship of Leo Strauss so much as what Strauss' dismissal of classical liberal morality and constitutional law can produce for the neocons. It's "The Prince" for The New Power Generation, it's Diet Stalinism, it's National Socialism Light.
Straussianism is at the heart of this policy. DiLorenzo gives a glimpse into the teachings of Leo Strauss and names lots of his disciples - most of which you've heard of on FoxSnooze.
