Commonwealth Foundation Hands Out Report Cards

by Joe?Pulcinella

I just got a mailing from The Commonwealth Foundation. I haven't yet decided whether or not they garner a place in our most cherished web links list but I checked out their site and found something very interesting to those of us here in Delco, PA. They issue a "report card" on Pennsylvania's legislators and rank them from good to bad based on a liberty index.

The Commonwealth Foundation used a weighted mathematical equation to analyze the last 242 laws passed by the Legislature and scored each elected official’s vote based on whether or not the law "expand(ed) or contract(ed) liberty."

There are some familiar names mentioned in this Delaware County Times article and I don't mean that as a compliment in any way.

Also garnering an F-minus were state Sen. Dominic Pileggi, R-9, and state Reps. Mario Civera, R-164 and Ron Raymond, R-162.

Rep. Stephen Barrar, R-160, of Upper Chichester, came in at No. 218, Rep. Tom Gannon, R-161, of Ridley Township was No. 221, and Rep. Nicholas Micozzie, R-163, of Upper Darby ranked at No. 226. All three received Fs.

I will try my best on Nov 2 NOT to reward these bums by sending them back to Harrisburg.

In a truly free-market capitalist society, there would be no need for business or labor to court politicians, and they would busy themselves with their foundational concerns, i.e. making money and getting a fair shake for their members.

This is CLASSIC; Also garnering an F-minus were state Sen. Dominic Pileggi, R-9, and state Reps. Mario Civera, R-164 and Ron Raymond, R-162. Raymond was the lowest rated member of the House of Representatives. "I never pay attention to that group," said Raymond, of Sharon Hill. "They’re strange. They’re right-wing extremist and out of the mainstream." Raymond instead wanted to focus on honor, support and recognition he said he is getting at home. "The (Delaware County) Chamber of Commerce is giving me their legislative leader of the year award and their political arm is supporting my re-election," said Raymond. "I also have the AFL-CIO and the buildings and trades unions supporting me. When you have that diverse of a constituency you have to do what’s right by the people, not what some group in the (central part of the state) wants you to do."
