Reverse Discrimination Is Still Discrimination

But if you're the government, you can designate that up is down and down is up so I guess in a relative sense, it doesn't really matter. Anyway, a frind of mine who works for DoD just sent me this very, very important email. For all the flags and exclamation points that the email carried with it, you'd think it certainly had something to do with national defense.

Subject: NOMINATION CALL- BLACK ENGINEER OF THE YEAR

Carderock Division is soliciting nominations for The Black Engineer of the Year Award. The BlackEngineer of the Year Awards Conference is one of the premier events held each year to highlightBlack achievement in the fields of engineering, science, and technology. Meanwhile, here's one of the few decisions coming out of the government that I like:

These programs stamp minorities with a badge of inferiority and may cause them to develop dependencies or to adopt an attitude that they are "entitled" to preferences.

I have absolutely NO problem with a private organization recognizing a black, Irish, Jewish, female, or even Italo-American Engineer of the year - our country has a long tradition of cultural and ethnic minorities helping and recognizing success among their own. But our Federal government is supposed to be an impartial, egalitarian administration of common tasks for the general good. Any singling out of individuals for reason of race is inimical to a fair and impartial general government, which, as we all know, disappeared when Lincoln's troops invaded Virginia.
