...with this article?in Forbes Magazine Online about supercomputing. Some highlights;
On the heels of the task force study, this month the U.S. House of Representatives passed two supercomputing-related bills that call for $200 million in fiscal 2005 funding for the development of high-end computers at the Department of Energy--the cabinet agency responsible for modeling what happens inside a nuclear explosion.

American supercomputer users, such as Procter & Gamble (nyse: PG - news - people ) and Ford Motor (nyse: F - news - people ), like legislation that bolsters high-end computing research and development because it will help them design better cars and potato chips. The bills have an even more direct benefit for Cray (nasdaq: CRAY - news - people ), Silicon Graphics (nyse: SGI - news - people ), Hewlett-Packard (nyse: HPQ - news - people ), IBM (nyse: IBM - news - people ) and other computer makers.
Yes - this kind of spending saves these behemoth companies the cost of developing critical tools with which they will exclude competitors and make even more money, funded by you and me.
