They're just setting up more ways to get you. Property taxes are way too visible. And although most of us simply forward the bill to our mortgage companies, escrowing is not mandatory in all cases. An income tax, however, will probably be by payroll deduction so the revenues will always flow.

My first thought, about 1/3 of the way into the article, was that PA Republicans had come out strongly against raising taxes. "How Refreshing!" I thought. Then I saw this; The law allows school board's to circumvent the referendum and raise property taxes above the rate of inflation in about eight instances, including emergencies or disasters and spikes in special education costs. In exchange for the property tax relief, school boards must approve an earned income tax of at least .1 percent. Penn-Delco School District is the only district in the county with an earned income tax. So what will happen, inevitably, is that emergencies will occur, special ed costs will go up, and the towns will collude with the schools to raise the Earned Income Tax to get a kickback. Jerkoffs.
