The Libertyguys Out - Smart Ray Kurzweil!

by Vince Daliessio

We have discussed, recently, the transparently military character of the reconstituted 1918 flu virus (illustrated above). It only took Uber-renaissance man Ray "Mr. Singularity" Kurzweil twelve more days than it took us to figure out that this was an incredibly, stupendously, laughably dangerous thing for our government scientists to have done, much less published about.

Even more incredibly, however, Kurzweil falls further behind we budding geniuses here at Libertyguys by calling for a massive, "Manhattan Project"-style federal program to invent a cure for this wholly government-created catastrophe-in-progress. Such a program is beyond mere garden-variety dangerous government stupidity - this is sheer, illogical, raving, incoherent madness.

Mr. Kurzweil is obviously not cognizant of the self-accelerating nature of such government projects. He is probably forgetting about, for example, the evil, immoral nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which even Eisenhower rejected at the time, and condemned after. He is overlooking the Cold War and the nuclear arms race, and the massive environmental devastation left in the wake of the nuclear weapons complexes here, and in the Soviet Union.

Is it me, or is giving the government an unlimited taxpayer-supplied budget to try to come up with a cure at least a thousand times crazier than reconstituting the thing in the first place?  Either Mr. Kurzweil's irony detector is broken, or else he's putting us all on.

This whole enterprise crosses the line between scientific curiousity and a fully-blown, Joseph Mengele-style war crime. The very idea of such a government program is sheer lunacy from top to bottom. It must be halted immediately, and all traces of the virus destroyed.

Now I respect Mr. Kurzweil, his creativity, his entrepreneurship, and his previous achievements as much as the next person, but his proposal would have the potential for unleashing thousands of deadly viruses upon the earth, due to the perversions and irresponsibility of scientists working within the federal ambit.

Would it be wholly inappropriate to say to Mr. Kurzweil, at this juncture, "DUUUUUUUHHHHHH!!!!!!"??

One wonders if we will go that mad too, if we get much smarter.

Nope, so-called International Law, that we force everyone else to adhere to, doesn't apply to the US Government.

Look, you know it's going to happen anyway - the bigs in the vaccine and pharmaceutical businesses have lined up behind it. But this program is particularly malevolent, moreso than the phony evidence cooked up for the Iraqi WMDs because this time we didn't just take pictures and claim they were of "mobile weapons laboratories - this time, we MADE a f***ing deadly weapon ourselves! Isn't there some bioweapons treaty we're violating here?

For a while there I was struggling to see how Vince was going to tie-in the party streamers with a political diatribe.

Speak for yourself, Vince!
