Giant's reply.
by Jim?Rutter
So Giant Foods replied to my article that detailed why I wouldn't shop at their stores anymore:
Thank you for communicating with us about the Fair Share Health Care
bill that the Maryland legislature
just endorsed over the Governor's veto.? Giant did not propose the
legislation nor did Safeway.??? We did
testify, as did many others, in support of the legislation.??? We
appreciate this opportunity to share our point
of view with you.
And of course, their point of view turns out to be simply a restatement, in social-welfare utility terms, of everything I attacked them for.
As we all know too well, health care costs have been increasing
significantly.?? The federal government and
the state government have tried to tackle this growing problem, but
have not legislated any significant new
laws or regulations that would help to lower health care expenses.

Ramifications!!! Someone, somewhere, many years ago decided to file a false medical claim, a few bucks were made, the trend picked up and now here we are left to deal with the mess, and unfortunately people are still making fraudulent claims. Some people are straight GREEDY and want to make a fast buck, others are just tired of getting screwed, and they are in a pinch so they do what they have to do. We have to remember as working class Americans that if something benefits us, it is because it's lining someone?s pocket and if something really sucks for us like medical benefits, it's because it is lining someone?s pockets. We, the working class Americans, regardless of race are the majority of the population in America, we have the strength, skill, and the brains to build and support this country but we have a habit of electing privileged yuppie trust fund babies in to positions of power and we let them dictate our future. It burns my ass knowing that the positions that these elected officials hold are probably the first job they ever had, all they are good at is conning us into believing that they really care, which they do, just not about anything that affects our quality of life.
There are four things the state and federal government could do to lower medical costs for everyone; Eliminate the favored tax treatment of employer-provided health benefits, eliminate Medicare and Medicaid, eliminate drug patents and FDA regulation, and eliminate state licensure of doctors and hospitals. Once the supra-market demands wrought by these things subside, the costs of actual, necessary medical treatment will plummet. Of course, you have the doctor's union (AMA), the health insurers, the pharmaceutical companies, the unions, and the government employees (and, apparently, companies like Giant and Safeway) all against you, so good luck pursuing any meaningful reform!

I don't think they get it.....
